Bulgarian forest should be considered national symbol, claimed president Parvanov in Yambol. The president attended a regional session on environmental problems and the restoration of Bulgarian forests.“If I am to point five symbols of Bulgaria, i will not hesitate to name our forest. It is a symbol of Bulgarian identity”, said the president.
According to Parvanov the forest sector needs not only a clear strategy, but also active management policy, the results of which are accountable.
In the transition period this sector was neglected. Real, effective, action reforms were not conducted. Energy, force and courage for this reform were also lacking, pointed out Parvanov.
The Bulgarian president commented that the reform in the forest sector requires the Agency for forests to have enough financial stability. Parvanov expressed hope that this will be taken into consideration in the budget for the next year.
Yambol to be one of the base regions of the initiative “You are beautiful, my forest”, the president suggested.
The initiative envisages the forest sectors most hardly hit by the fires to be the first restored. The initiative will also aim at preventive measures, directly dealing with which will be the citizens.
An action plan will be prepared upon discussion of the initiative on a central level.
