The Ministry of Agriculture reports a record in the export of basic agriculture crops in 2008.

For the period beginning July up to now nearly 2 200 000 tons of grain cultures (wheat, barley and corn) have been exported, which puts us third in Europe on the export of such crops.

This was announced at a press conference today by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture Svetla Buchvarova.

The approximate value of the export is 700 million levs up to the beginning of December, it is expected that this indicator will increase by the end of the year, because the export of production to third countries in the moment continues, Svetla Buchvarova specified.

According to her, due to the extremely good market up to October 2008 with prices from 330-340 levs per ton wheat as a basic export crop, agriculture producers have managed to increase the areas, taken up by basic crops by 8 percent to 10 800 000 decares of wheat.

According to Svetla Buchvarova it is especially important that this is underlined on the background of the decreased areas in the EU and Black sea basin countries and is a good prerequisite for the increase of export the next year.
