Here you will find the latest articles, news, interviews and comments from today's Bulgarian press:

The Trud daily

"European report 4: Some progress", "Trud" writes. "First steps", "certain development", "more material novelty" - this is according to the paper the tone of the European Commission in the report. It sounds more lenient than the report from 23 July last year, but if there were political assessments in its 8 pages, it would probably be just as criticizing, the issue comments. According to it, Brussels yet another time points out that there are no convictions on corruption cases for high ranking officials and organized crime, a very small part of the complex punitive cases reach the court - the punitive system is "extremely sluggish", the pre-court phase is problematic, more effort is needed against the buying of votes.

The resignation of the chief of the National income agency Maria Murgina is one of the accents in the papers.

"An affair for 600 million levs toppled the chief of the tax authorities", "Trud" writes in its main feature "the Topic". Officially the motives for Murgina to leave are the lower income from VAT compared to the planned and a suspended certificate for access to classified information. She adds as a reason  the voicing of the agency's decisions to the media. According to "Trud" the affair for draining of VAT between 600 million and 1 billion levs has "eaten the head" of Murgina. The investigation against tax authority number 1 has been going on for 8 months, DANS told "Trud". It all started from signals of her subordinates and agents of DANS in the National Income Agency, in which schemes were described for the draining of VAT. The first report, which served as a basis of the investigation, belongs to the ex boss of the tax service in Dobrich Toshko Todorov. On the basis of the document the ex deputy Finance Minister Georgi Kadiev demanded in 2006 that Murgina is removed, in the end, however, he was forced to hand in his resignation , while the expert report was "swept up", the issue reminds.

The 24 chasa daily

"Resignation instead of arrest", is the topic of "24 chasa". Three letters from Plovdiv, Silistra, Burgas, which have been sent in the European Commission in Brussels, will cause the most significant financial scandal in Bulgaria, according to the issue. They were unified by the argument that tax collectors forced them to submit resignations, in order to stop work on VAT scams. The issue points out that Murgina submitted her resignation and adds that word was her public arrest was considered, but the checking authorities offered to give her an opportunity to calmly stand behind her position.

Why was GERB born? The tzar didn't make Boyko Minister", Lyuben Dilov-son from "Gergiovden" says for "24 chasa". Asked to comment Boyko Borissov's statement in Chicago Dilov-son answers that he was more than anything else startled by the confession, that the entire project GERB has arisen because Simeon Saxcoburgotski did not make Borissov Internal Affairs Minister. Dilov reasons on authority and wine and presumes that since sweeter wine causes worse hang-over, this is probably the same with authority. The probability that the number of parties, which will find a sure place in the future National Assembly, is to be bigger than the considered sure for four formations - GERB, BSP, ATAKA and DPS, according to data by NCIOM, cited in today's papers. According to the study, if the elections were in the beginning of February, SDS, DSB, Movement "Napred" and NDSV would have good chances to go in the parliament.
