With the words I resign as leader of UDF not with the idea to make a theater gesture but because I think that UDF and Bulgarian right need renewal, Petar Stoyanov, the leader of the Union of democratic forces resigned today.Stoyanov emphasized that according to him the renewal goes through the withdrawal from politics of all leaders of right parties.
For Stoyanov the process of renewal will start at the moment when all leaders of the right resign.
Stoyanov stressed that he meant not resigns, causing new conference, on which they to be re-elected but a dignified withdrawal.
The Bulgarian right can manage without us and I am sure it will do better without us, claimed Stoyanov.
Yesterday, the whole leadership of DSB resigned, and today its leader Ivan Kostov offered alliance between the two right parties.
Petar Stoyanov said he believed in UDF and the big potential of the Bulgarian right and expressed confidence that an alliance should follow, however not a leader's alliance, but returning – step by step - of the electorate's trust.
The cause of Stoyanov's resignation is the MEP election results on which, as Stoyanov pointed, he expected UDF to win at least one seat in the European parliament, which didn't happen.
“We were punished by the electorate”, admitted Stoyanov and commented that this was because the electorate could not get used to the thought that in Bulgaria there are so many and hostile towards each other right parties.
