Bulgaria Grants 50,000 EUR Prize for Bulgarian Olympic Gold

Each Bulgarian athlete who returns with a gold from the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will receive per 100,000 BGN (50,000 EUR) bonus, mediapool.bg reported. This was decided on Tuesday, January 15 after a session of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC) and the State Agency for Youth and Sports (SAYS).
The prize will be equal as what Bulgarian athletes received for a gold medal in the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
Back to 2004, Maria Grozdeva (sport shooting) and Milen Dobrev (weightlifting) became Olympic champions.
On the Tuesday session were also discussed the organisation of the transport of Bulgaria's sports delegation to China. Offers from different airline companies are expected to be made.
SAYS is about to provide round 900,000 BGN (450,000 EUR) for plane tickets, clothing and pocket money for the sports delegation members.
The state has granted a total of 8 million BGN (4 million EUR) for preparation for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
