Belgian Firefighters in Support of the Bulgarian Nurses

Belgian firefighters will run their sirens on 19 January for half a minute in support of the Bulgarian medics, exactly a month after the Libyan court confirmed their death sentences.
In this way, firefighters will join a campaign of first launched by Belgian nurses.
Nearly 16 000 signatures have been gathered in a petition in Belgium, calling for freedom of the Bulgarian nurses sentenced to death for intentional HIV infection in Libya.
Once all signatures have been collected, the petition will be submitted to the Libyan ambassador in Paris. Medics from Belgium would also request a meeting with the nurses in Judeida prison, the report said.
The federation planned to organise other acts in support of the medics.
At the same time representatives of international movement Ecoforum for Peace said that a team of international lawyers should evaluate the trial in Libya.
A conclusion could be reached taking into account court motives and all arguments of the defence, the movement said.
Ecoforum for Peace suggested the inclusion of a Bulgarian, Palestinian and a Libyan lawyer in the evaluation team. The team should also have five representatives of Arab countries.
Belgium firefighters said they hoper their Bulgarian colleagues will be the first ones to launch a similar campaign in their country an on the same date.
The chief of the Bulgarian fire brigades, Nikolay Nikolov said there are planning are a similar protest.
At exactly 12 o'clock local time on 19 January, Bulgarian firefighters run their sirens in support of the nurses in Libya.
"We hope other Balkan countries will join in," the chief of the Bulgarian fire brigade said in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio.
