Here you will find the latest articles, news, interviews and comments from today's Bulgarian press:

The Trud daily

"Sofia terminated the concession for waste collection", "Trud" writes in its main feature "the Topic". Sofia municipal council decided yesterday to terminate unilaterally and prematurely the contract with the firm "Novera" for the cleaning of 19 regions of the city beginning April 1 2009. The motive is criminal non-performance on the part of the concessioner. The offer by mayor Boyko Borissov was unanimously supported by the advisors of all political groups at an emergency session  of the municipal council. In its front material "Trud" points out that the  sultan of Oman Qaboos ibn Sa'id controls the Sofia waste, because in January the owner of "Novera" (the British fund "Inquest Investment Balkans") changed its owner. Now the major investor in it is the sultan of Oman.

The 24 chasa daily

"Bats will return due to the crisis", the Plovdiv Court of Appeals Prosecutor Rosen Dimov warns for "24 chasa". In the second half of 2008 when the world economic crisis started to manifest itself, suddenly a crime was revived, which was a part of the past - physical extortion, he points out. The forecasts for the increase of crime in 2009 are not good, because the crisis hits work places, while the lack of work and income lead to desperation in a part of the population, Dimov explains. A part of the new unemployed and unqualified will start to find financial resources some other way, which means that the typical crimes like theft, car theft will probably increase, he forecasts.

The Sega daily

Premier Sergey Stanishev gave a 5-day ultimatum to politicians and representatives of the judicial power to iron out the differences on the fight against corruption and organized crime, "Sega" writes. The issue adds that this takes place hours after the return of the Premier from Brussels, where he met EC Chair Jose Manuel Barrosso. According to some, Barrosso implied that he is not happy with the rates of activity of the authorities in Bulgaria. He also expressed fears that the execution of the urgent measure will be postponed because of the elections.

"The EU did not rectify the situation in Bulgaria in 800 days either", "Sega" comments in the supplement "Nabludatel". The author reminds that today is the 800th day since Bulgaria entered the EU. It is as if the hope of the Bulgarian citizen for improvement is vanishing, after the disappointment in the notorious 800 days, in which the ex-Premier Simeon Saxe-Cobur Gotha promised to take us out of the pit, the paper writes. He points out that after all Brussels has not set such an impossible deadline, but is trying to point our problems and this it does with unflinching perseverance.

"A coalition between GERB and BSP is impossible", sociologist Zhivko Georgiev is emphatic for "Sega". According to him, first of all GERB would count on SDS and DSB as partners, second it would go to "Napred" and NDSV, if they enter the parliament. Georgiev thinks that NDSV has a chance to surpass the minimum for entering the National Assembly, if it makes a good campaign.
