More than 145, 000 signatures for protection of Rila Mountain will be introduced by Bulgarian environmentalists in European Commission in Brussels.

Citizens and ecological organizations of few European counties and EP deputies from the Green Group will gather in front of the institution building to demonstrate in support of their cause.

That was announced by Bulgarian eco-activists.

The petition, to be presented in front of Europe insists on Bulgarian state to stop the illegal construction works of ski resort project ‘Panichishte - 7 Rila lakes- Kabul' on the territory of National Park Rila and state protection of zone ‘Rila - buffer'.

Rila preserves unique for Europe and the world natural and cultural heritage, the coalition ‘Let's save nature in Bulgaria' representatives claim.

The reason of appealing help from the European institutions is the silence and inactivity of Bulgarian authorities to cease the drastic violations of law in Rila, the environmentalists explain.

'No other cause, except the liberation of Bulgarian medics from Libya campaign didn't mobilized such united and strong social support during the last years in Bulgaria. Since August 2007 thousands of Bulgarian citizen took part in more than 50 actions and protests for Rila', the ecologists reminded.
