State Fund 'Bulgarian Forest' to be Established Soon

Bulgarian Premier Stanishev undertook the initiative changes in the Forests Law to be entered and inspected at accelerated rates by the Parliament to the end of January.

These changes aim to solve urgent tasks and strategic problems in the sector and preview establishing of national fund ‘Bulgarian Forest'.

The goal is the forest sector's finance stabilizing and opportunity for reinvestment in forestation.

It is also previewed transforming of the regional forests offices into regional directions and of the forestries into state enterprises.

That's how the control functions and the policy making functions will be concentrated into the State Forest Agency (SFA) and the regional directions.

These reforms are necessary in order to prevent the forests from poachers and illegal abolition.

Reforms won't stop with accepting of this project law, informed the Premier.

After this changes in the Hunting and Game Preventing Law impend, added Stanishev.

Bulgarian forests are in good condition for the moment an have potential, which is about to be developed. Though, there is bad tendency in forestation.

Data shows from 2002 to 2007 the yearly capacity of forestation decreases from 88,377 hectares to 4,500 hectares and the not forestated cutting areas, erosion areas and forsaken and desolated lands amount increases.

Over 140,000 penal acts for illegal forest felling have been issued during 2007. Almost non of them received actual sanction, informed SFA chairman Stefan Iurukov.

He also confessed, a significant percent of the contraventions are even not registered on paper.
