Removal of visa for Bulgarians is not anymore only a rumor but a real possibility.

This week American president George Bush should sign the approved by the Congress law, which will allow for the visa-free travel of Bulgarians to the country of unlimited possibilities.

To remind, that during his visit in Bulgaria, president Bush commented that he supported Bulgaria's accession to the 27 states which don't need visa for the US but that “this decision should be taken by the Congress after changing the legal framework for the immigrants”.

The law was adopted on Friday with 371 votes “for” and 40 “against”. After the president signs it, the US department of state and the US ministry of interior security will define which countries are eligible for the new criteria of the visa-free program.

The decision for change of the restrictive regime for the countries of Eastern Europe was also an outcome of the pressure put by the European union.

However, in order the visa regime to be suspended there should be 5% less visa denials for US than the ones that are given now.

The US law provides for 10% denials while in Bulgaria currently 15-16% of the visa requests are refused.

Data of the American embassy in Bulgaria shows that 25 000 Bulgarians leave for the US every year.
