They Are Coming Home

The Bulgarian nurses Kristiana Valcheva, Nasia Nenova, Valentina Siropulo, Valia Cherveniashka, Snejana Dimitrova and the Palestinian doctor Ashraf al-Hadjudj, as well as dr. Zdravko Georgiev are on board of a French airplane flying to Bulgaria.
The medics are accompanied by the European commissioner on external affairs Benita Ferrero-Waldner, who until late yesterday was leading talks with representatives of the Libyan ministry of foreign affairs together with the wife of the French president Cecilia Sarkozy.
The medics are expected to land on Bulgarian territory at around 10.30 am. Relatives and journalists have gathered at Sofia airport waiting for them.
The spokesman of the Ministry of foreign affairs Dimitar Tsanchev confirmed to BTV that the sisters have left Tripoli and are on their way home.
Tsanchev refused to say whether the president will issue a decree to reprieve the nurses. Both he and deputy -minister Feim Chaushev refused to comment what exactly could be expected from now on – whether the president will reprieve the medics directly at the airport.
From Bulgarian embassy in Libyaclaimed only that the negotiations in the last 48 hours – with the participation of Waldner and Cecilia Sarkozy were extremely intensive and nearly without a break.
The president's office issued official announcement to the media, in which it confirmed that “only a few hour are needed for their return”. Georgi Parvanov expressed gratitude to to all those who have supported the cause of the liberation of the Bulgarian medics.
In an official announcement of the European commission for the achieved results of the negotiations between Libya and EU, it is stated that the personal angagement of Cecilia Sarkozy and European commissioner Waldner should be taken into account and that gratitude is expressed to the emir of Qatar.
