The wage of general construction workers in firms in Burgas and the region has decreased almost three times.

Last summer a general construction worker has received a salary up to 2000 levs, while the day wages started from 60 levs upwards. The crisis, however, hit the industry hard and this affects the employed workers.

Salaries of workers have been reduced to 600-800 levs, while the day wages are now 25-40 levs. Salaries of 2000 levs in construction are only disbursed to people with managerial positions.

A big percentage of the employees of the construction companies have been laid of. Statistics points out that from October 2008 until now 6000 people have been discharged.

This is true for firms doing business in Burgas and the entire Southern Black sea coast. While there was a lack of work force in construction last year, now the tendency is just the opposite.
