The island is situated near the coastal resort of Sozopol. It is state ownership and is connected to the old town of Sozopol. Its total area amounts to 82,589 decares.
In 1965, ‘St. St. Kirik and Iulita' was declared for a cultural monument. By that time the island is part of ‘Sozopol' protected area (reserve).
The statute of the island requires preservation of its historic and architecture inheritance from the Antiquity, Medieval ages and the Bulgarian Revival period.Together with its favorable and strategic location, the resort may become an attractive centre for local and international marine tourism.
A Bulgarian army division was based on the island until 2005. From 1926 till now there were constructed 38 massive buildings, used as military harbors.
Regional Development Ministry, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Culture and Sozopol's Municipality will take the necessary measures for preparing the plan of the island's examination, informed from money.bg
