There is no use mixing the trial of the Bulgarian nurses and the Lockerbie disaster, the Italian Prime Minister says.

The two cases are very different, according to Romano Prodi. "The Italian government has analyzed the situation and we are sure there is absolutely no connection between the two," he added.

The Italian Prime Minister was invited to visit the Balkan country by the Bulgrian prime Minister Sergey Stanishev.

Romano Prodi made it clear that a stronger coordination between countries was needed to help free the medics in Libya. He said he felt personally involved with the case.

On the question about possible economic sanctions against Libya Prodi commented that countries shouldn't give up the diplomatic pressure on international level.

"I'll stay active and try to mobilize as many countries as possible, so that the medics will be freed," Romano Prodi stated in a press conference earlier today.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister was very grateful to his Italian counterpart for the support and the donations to the families of the infected children.
Romano Prodis and Sergey Stanishev attended the signing of a memorandum between the Bulgarian Agency on small to average businesses and the Italian Institute on Foreign Trade.

"This is a sign that we want to cooperate with Bulgaria, not only in average-sized companies but also with big Bulgarian banks and large infrastructure projects," Romano Prodi said.
