The efforts to free the six medics sentenced to death on the accusation of having contaminated with AIDS Libyan children, probably will find a way out of the situation after the positive European initiatives, claimed Muammar Gaddafi' s son Saif al-Islam, cited by Reuters.

“There are positive initiatives from European side. We are on the last track of the marathon and we are in the most difficult phase”, pointed out Saif al-Islam in front of journalists.

He added that the decision for terminating the crisis should be taken by the Libyan court and the families of the victims.

Saif al-Islam spoke with the EU commissioner on external affairs Benita Ferrero-Waldner and the German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who are in Tripoli to negotiate the nurses' release.

Spokesman of the relatives of the contaminated children claimed that a possible agreement, should guarantee their expenses, their treatment in European hospitals, as well as the necessary compensations.
