What are the latest tendencies in the real estate business lately?
The business is in a state of equilibrium now. There are a lot of offers and high demand. The peak was in the summer when many young couples wanted to have a place of their own. But this has had little effect the prices.
What do you think happens next?
Prices will go up, latest figures show prices have increased since August with 10%. There is a significant increase in the number of deals in three of the largest cities Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna. Bulgarians have become more pragmatic and willing to invest more willingly. Young people prefer holiday resorts near the Black Sea. Most of them work abroad and only come to Bulgaria for their summer holidays. It's a very good investment.
What are the best areas to invest?
Spa resorts like Velingrad and Razlog are often underestimated due to lack of proper infrastructure. Most foreign investors are looking for places in mountain villages across the country.
There are whole villages in Spain and they even have a British mayor. Do you think this is possible in Bulgaria?
There are places in Bulgaria where the majority of the population is British like Sokolovo and Kavarna. New golf fields are major attraction there. People started building swimming pools, and other facilities. The infrastructure there is excellent and that attracts a lot of investment. Brits prefer areas near the Black Sea, but also places of historic interest like Elena and Drianovo. The region is very picturesque and has a mild climate. It's interesting that the newcomers are very outgoing and establish good contacts with the local population fairly quickly. Some even speak Bulgarian and they love Bulgarian cuisine! Their number is far less than in Spain.
