The emir of Qatar Hamad bin Khalifa has played serious role in the last talks in Tripoli, after which the medics were free to leave for Bulgaria.

As it was announced earlier, French president Nicolas Sarkozy has expressed gratitude to the emir of Qatar for his help.

Hamad bin Khalifa is the first Arab leader Sarkozy met after winning the presidential elections in France.

The unblocking of the EU-Libya talks is most of all due to the enormous efforts of the French diplomacy and especially of the French president Nicolas Sarkozy. This claimed today Vladimir Chukov, Arab studies expert.

Chukov explained that it does an extreme credit to Sarkozy that he succeeded to activate the possibilities of the whole diplomacy available to achieve the release of the Bulgarian nurses by using the traditional relations between Europe and the Arab world.

According to Vladimir Chukov, Nicolas Sarkozy strives to bring back part of France's influence in the political world but he is also taking very well into account the new realities.

“Bulgaria happened to be a side in a very complex and multilevel knot and Sarkozy used all the possibilities. It gives him big credit that he thought of the emir of Qatar”, commented also Chukov.

The scientist explained that Qatar and especially his emir is an island of liberalism in the Arab world and pointed as an example the free media and the democratic political system of Qatar. Chukov continued that the emir of Qatar is an extremely respected politician in the Arab world who could be defined as the bridging point with Europe, but is also important figure in the relations between Libya and Saudi Arabia.

Exactly the Bulgarian trial and the Bulgarian medics case, according to Chukov, have become subject to of talk in the framework of the very complex historic relations between Tripoli and Riyadh, which are disputing the leadership in the Arab world and on the African continent.

“This is a very complex triangle, a complex political game, in which sides are separately the relations between Riyadh and Tripoli. This problem was heavy on Gaddafi. The role of the emir of Qatar was exactly on that level”, pointed Chukov.

“Exactly the emir of Qatar possesses the potential and the possibilities to be a mediator in the talks, to unblock very important relations, to put the respective pressure”, said Chukov.
